Recent Research Projects
Examining the Relationship Between Chronic Pain and Mortality in U.S. Adults
Chronic pain substantially increases mortality risk—especially when it limits daily activities, nearly 2–2.5× higher than those pain-free.
A U.S. nationally representative study found that adults reporting chronic pain had nearly double the risk of death, and those with high-impact chronic pain (HICP) had 2.5× higher risk, even after adjusting for lifestyle and psychosocial factors like smoking, inactivity, and anxiety.
